Viewing and Sharing our Activity Data

In this lesson for the Apple Watch we look at how we can share our activity with friends. When we share our activity, they can see how we are doing on our goals. Also, we can see how they are doing on their goals. We set this up through the Watch app on the iPhone, so you’ll want to open the Watch app to work along with this lesson.

Adding Friends to Share Activity With
To add a friend to share your activity with, they must have an Apple Watch. Also, you need to have there phone number in your contacts. To add a friend, what you do is send an invitation. To send an invitation you tap on the ‘+’ in the upper right corner. When you do this, you’ll get a list of everyone in your contacts who have an Apple Watch. From there you can send them an invitation to share your activity. If they accept, they’ll get a notification to accept, you’ll be able to see their activity going forward, and they will be able to see yours.

Viewing your Friends Activity
When you are looking at your Activity app on your iPhone, select Sharing in the lower left corner. When you do this, you can see all the activity for your friended by day. Scroll up to view past days. To see more detail about a friends activity for that day, you just tap on it.

Mute Notifications
When you are looking at a friends activity in detail, you’ll see an option for Mute Notifications. If you tap on Mute Notifications, you will no longer receive notification from them when they close a ring or complete an activity. You’ll will still be able to see there activity in the activity app and on your Apple Watch though. When you tap on Mute Notifications, the button turns in to Unmute Notifications. Tap on Unmute Notification to receive notifications again.

Hide Activity
If you’d like to hid your activity form your friend, then you tap on Hide Activity. Like Mute Notifications, this is a toggle and you tap on it to hide and unhide your activity.

Remove Friend
Tap on Remove Friend to remove your friend altogether from sharing your activity. When you do this, you will not be able to see their activity and they will not be able to see yours.

Viewing a Friend’s Contact Information
If you want to view contact information about a friend, you tap on the ‘i’ in the upper right corner.

Chatting with a Friend
To chat with a friend from the Activity app, you tap on the Chat bubble in the upper right corner while looking at a friends activity.

Sorting Friend’s Activities
When you are viewing your friends activities for a day it is sorted by name by default. So if you are sharing your activity with multiple friends, when you view their activity, it will be sorted by name. You can change the sort order to Move, Exercise, Steps. or Workouts. This way you can have the friend with the most move calories sorted to top if you’d like. To change the sort order, tap on Sort in the upper left corner.

Viewing who you are Sharing Activity With
To see a list of you you are sharing your activity with, tap on Sharing at the top. When you do this, you’ll see a list of everyone you are sharing your activity with. From there you can mute, hide, and remove them if you’d like.
