What’s New in the Photos App

In this lesson for What’s New in iOS 12 on the iPad, we look at what’s new in the Photos app on the iPad including the new For You tab, a smarter search, and how to copy iCloud links for photos you want to share.

For You Tab
Apple replaced the Memories tab at the bottom of the Photos app with a new For You Tab. This tab includes all your memories, featured photos, and any sharing activity you have with friends and family.

Share your Moments
When you take a photo with someone in it, and the Photos app recognizes that person, you can easily share that Moment with that person. The photos app provides a link to share that Moment.

Smarter Search
The Photos app will proactively suggest categories based on the term you are searching for. As an example, if you are searching for cats, you will see a category for cats in the results and if you tap on it, you’ll see all your photos with cats.

Copy iCloud Links for Photos you want to Share
You can now share photos via links. When you share a photo via a link, the person you share it with will be directed to a web page with the photo you shared. To share a photo via a link, open the photo in the Photos app and then tap on the Share icon, you’ll see an option for sharing via a link. You may have to swipe to the left to see the option when the Share Sheet shows. This only works with iCloud Photo Library, so if you are not using iCloud Photo Library, this option will not be available.
