Blocking Channels from Today

In this lesson for the News app on the iPad, I look at how to block channels and topics from showing in your Today topic as well as the Today View on the iPad.

Blocking a Topic or Channel that is Suggested by Siri
To block a channel or topic that is suggested by Siri, which is below your Following list, you just tap on the heard with a line through it icon to the right of the channel or topic you want to block. Articles from the channel or topic will then no longer show in your Today topic.

Blocking a Topic or Channel while in a Topic or Channel
When you open a topic or channel, you tap on the Share icon to the left of the Heart icon. When the Share Sheet opens, one of the options is to block the topic or channel you are in. You may have to swipe to the left to see this option while in the Share Sheet. You do not want to tap on the heart with a line through it that shows at the bottom of the topic or channel you are looking at. This will dislike the topic or channel, but not block it. When you dislike it, you will see fewer articles from that topic or channel, but it does not block it.

Unblocking a Topic or Channel
To see the channels and topics you have blocked, and to unblock any of them, scroll down to the bottom of your sidebar on the left. At the bottom, you will see a link for Blocked Channels & Topics. Tap on this to see all your blocked channels and topics. To unblock any topic or channel, just swipe to the left on the topic or channel you want to unblock. You can also tap on Edit in the upper right corner and then tap on the red circle to the left of any topic or channel you want to block.
