Navigating through a Book

In this lesson for the Books app on the iPhone, I take a look at how to navigate through a book while reading it in the Books app on the iPhone.

Opening a Book
To open a book to read, you just tap on it. When you open the book, it will return to the last page you were reading. If you are reading the book on multiple devices, the Books app will sync to the latest page that was read even if it was on another device.

While reading the book, you will see the title at the top and the page number at the bottom. To view more tools, you tap on the book. You’ll see more tools at the top of your book and at the bottom.

Turning the Page
To go to the next or previous page, just swipe to the left or right.

Using the Slider to Navigate through your Book
To use the slider to navigate through your book, you first need to tap on the book to show more tools. When you do this, you’ll see a slider at the bottom of your book with a blue dot indicating where you are in the book. Just drag the slider to the left or right to go to a different part of the book. As you slide to the left and right, you’ll see the page number and chapter towards the bottom of the book. If you do go to a different part of the book, you can quickly get back to where you were by tapping on the page in the lower left corner.

Viewing the Table of Contents
To view the table of contents while reading, again, just tap on the book to show the various tools. At the top of the Books app, you’ll see three horizontal lines. Tap on this to display the table of contents, bookmarks, and notes. While viewing the table of contents, just tap on any chapter to go to that chapter.

Searching in a Book
To search while in a book, tap on the book while reading it. Again, the tools will show at the top. Tap on the magnifying glass to search your book. When you search your book, you’ll see the results below the search field. At the bottom will also be options to search the web and search Wikipedia.

Closing the Book
To close the book and get back to your Reading Now or Library, tap on the book to show the tools and then tap on the arrow pointing to the left at the top of your book.
