Software Updates

In this lesson for What’s New in iOS 12 on the iPhone, we look at how we can turn on automatic updates for the iOS software. With this setting turned on, your iPhone will notify you there is an update and then update it automatically when your iPhone is plugged in and on a wi-fi network.

Turning on Automatic Update
To turn on Automatic Updates, you need to go to the Settings app. From there you tap on General. At the top, you’ll see Software Update. There is one setting for this – Automatic Updates. Just tap on the slider to turn it on.

Again, when this is turned on, your iPhone will notify you that there is an update, then it will automatically install any software updates when it is on a wi-fi network and charging. It will usually do this overnight.

This does not update any app downloaded from the App Store.
