Customizing the iTunes Sidebar

In this lesson for iTunes on the Mac, we look on how to customize the sidebar in iTunes on the Mac.

When you are looking at your Library, you’ll see the sidebar on the left side of the iTunes interface. This sidebar shows us various categories depending on what we are viewing. As an example, when you are looking at Music, it will show Artists, Albums, Songs, compilations, and more. If you are looking at TV Shows, it will show episodes. We can rearrange these categories and change what it shows.

Reordering the Sidebar Categories
To reorder or rearrange the order of what is shown, you just drag the categories around. So if Compilations is at the bottom of the list, you can drag it up to the top of the list.

Hiding and Showing Categories
In addition to rearranging the categories, you can also show and hide different categories. To edit what is shown, go to the right of the Library with your cursor. When you do this, you’ll see an Edit button appear. This only shows when you have the cursor to the right of your Library. When you click on it, you’ll see checkboxes next to all the categories that are available. Each media type has its own categories available. Just select or deselect the categories you want to show or hide. When you are finished, click on Done to the right of your Library. Any changes you’ve made will be applied.
