Search and Add Stocks to your Watchlist

In this lesson for Tutor for the Stocks app on the Mac, I look at how to search for stocks and add a stock to our watchlist in the Stocks app on the Mac.

Searching for a Stock
To search for a stock, you just click in the search field at the top of the sidebar on the left. You can type in the company name or stock symbol. All the results will be shown below the search field.

Adding a Stock to your Watchlist from Search Results
To add a stock to your Watchlist from your results, you first need to click on the result to show the chart and news for that stock. Once you do that, you’ll see a green ‘+’ to the right of the sidebar. Click on the ‘+’ to add the stock to your Watchlist.

Managing your Watchlist
To manage your watchlist including adding and deleting stocks to your watchlist, and re-ordering your Watchlists, you click on the three horizontal lined in the lower right corner of the sidebar. When you do this, you’ll see Manage Watchlists at the top of the sidebar.

Adding Stocks from Manage Watchlist
To add a stock while in Manage Watchlists, you click on the ‘+’ in the upper left corner of the sidebar. From there you search for your stock you want to watch in the search field. Then click on the green ‘+’ to the left of the stock. The stock will be added to your Watchlist.

Deleting Stocks from Manage Watchlist
To delete a stock from your Watchlist, you click on the red ‘-‘ and then to confirm, you click on ‘Remove’.

Re-ordering Stocks in the Manage Watchlist
To re-order the stocks, just drag the three horizontal lines to the right of the stock you want to move up or down depending on where you want that stock in your Watchlist.
