Selecting and Importing Media

In this video, we take a look at how we select and import photos from the Image Capture app on the Mac.

Selecting Media in Image Capture
To select a photo or video, just click on a photo or video one time. If you click twice it will import it. Any item that is selected will have a gray border and the title will turn blue. If you click on a different photo, you’re going to notice that your previous photo is no longer selected. To select multiple items, hold down the ‘Command’ key on the keyboard. To select a number of photos that are next to each other, hold down the Shift key.

Importing Media with Image Capture
Now let’s take a look at how we import them once we select them. If you double click on one photo, what it’s going to do is import that single photo or video. Now where did it save it? By default it imports it into the Pictures folder. You’re going to see ‘Import to’ at the bottom of the interface and it’s set for ‘Pictures’. You can change it to import it into different folders or even apps. You can set it for Pictures, Desktop, Documents, Movies, Downloads. You can also make sub folders for Camera, build web pages, and make a PDF.

After you import your photos and videos, you will notice that with each photo that was imported, there is a green check mark in the lower right hand corner. This is how you can easily see if the photo or video was imported. If we’re looking at it in the ‘List’ view- remember we can change it to a ‘List’ view- we can also see if the photo or video was imported.
