Working with Notifications

In this lesson for the Apple Watch we take a closer look at Notifications and the Notifications Settings on the Apple Watch and in the Watch app on the iPhone.

Accessing Notifications
If you recall, to access your notifications on the Apple Watch, you just swipe down from the top on a Watch Face. When you are looking at a watch face and you see a red dot at the top of the watch face, this means you have unread notifications. If you do not see a read dot, you can still swipe down to see your recent notifications if the have not been cleared.

Notification Detail
To see more details on a notification, you just tap on it. As an example, if you received a message, you tap on the notification to see more detail about the message and to reply to it. In some cases, when you tap on the notification it will open the app associated with the notification. To go back, push in the digital crown.

Clearing Notifications
If you no longer want to see the notifications you have in your Notification Center, you first swipe down to get to your notifications, then swipe to the left of the notification you want to clear. You’ll see an options to clear that notification. To clear all your notifications, you force touch or gently push down on your Apple Watch. You’ll see an icon for clearing all your notifications. Once you do this, you will not have any notification in your Notification Center until you receive new ones.

Notification Settings in the Watch App on the iPhone
Now let’s take a look at the settings we have for Notifications in the Watch app on the iPhone. When you open the Watch app, select My Watch in the lower left corner. Down towards the bottom you’ll see Notifications. From here you can also set if you you want to see the Notifications indicator on your Apple Watch. You can also se the privacy. When you turn on privacy, the details of an alert, such as a message, will not show until you tap on your Apple Watch. You’ll receive an alert yet, you just won’t see the details until you tap on the Apple Watch. You can also set the notification settings for your individual apps by tapping on an app.
