Scheduling Do Not Disturb

In this lesson for What’s New in iOS 12 on the iPhone, we look at how you can automatically schedule Do Not Disturb from the Control Panel to turn back off after a set time or when you leave a location.

Accessing Scheduling Options from the Control Panel
To access these settings, you need to open your Control Panel. In the Control Panel is a control for Do Not Disturb. When you tap on it, it turns Do Not Disturb on and you will not receive any notifications. Tap on it again, to turn it off. The problem with this is sometimes you may forget to turn Do Not Disturb back off, maybe after a meeting or after a movie. You can now have Do Not Disturb turn off after an hour, until this evening, until you leave a location, and at the end of a meeting.

Turning Do Not Disturb back off after an Hour
To turn Do Not Disturb back off after an hour, just tap and hold on the Do Not Disturb Control in the Control Panel. The first option will turn Do Not Disturb on for an hour, then turn it back off.

Turning Do Not Disturb back off Until this Evening
To turn Do Not Disturb back off after in the evening, just tap and hold on the Do Not Disturb Control in the Control Panel. The second option will turn Do Not Disturb on for until the evening.

Turning Do Not Disturb back off when you leave a Location
To turn Do Not Disturb back off after you leave a location just tap and hold on the Do Not Disturb Control in the Control Panel. The third option will turn Do Not Disturb on until you leave your location. For this option to show, you must be at a set location, meaning the iPhone must know where you are at. I use this when I go to a movie. The iPhone knows I am at the local theater, so when I leave that theater, Do Not Disturb will turn back off automatically.

Turning Do Not Disturb back off when a Meeting is Done
To turn Do Not Disturb back off after a meeting is done, just tap and hold on the Do Not Disturb Control in the Control Panel. The fourth option will turn Do Not Disturb on during your scheduled meeting and turn it back off after the meeting is done. You do need to have a scheduled meeting in your Calendar for this option to show.

Schedule Do Not Disturb for Bedtime
You can also tap on Schedule in the Do Not Disturb Control to go to the Do Not Disturb settings in the Settings app. If you use the Bedtime feature, you can tell Do Not Disturb to turn on when you go to bed.
